Awesome job as always Matt
Audio is j u st important as the image.
you need to offer this template too
Great info! Why does the mask mode have to be turned on though?
Can I use the godox ad200 pro????
Nicely done
Thanks!
Matt were you able to test this when you had the A9iii. Theoretically with the A9iii wouldn't you be able to lower the power on the flash so it recycles more quickly to fire continuously as it syncs at a much higher shutter speed?
You would yes! So you could use less strobe and use them more than once depending on the power setting. I’ll have to play with that once I get the a9iii!
Very nice concept and execution Matt
Thank you!
If they are all group A how does it know which to fire first, etc.?
Check out the video at about 4:40 and Matt shows how to set the sequence on the FJ 400 :). Right before my EPIC behind the scenes video 🤣 - Thanks for watching Matt had a lot of fun making this shot!!
Thanks Jake! Yeah you set the sequence in order of when you want them all to fire. Thanks for watching! And yes, your video WAS epic, Jake hahaha.
@@jakefromJ7 I get it now. Thanks.
Super cool man! Thanks Matt
Thanks for watching @EliInfante! I really appreciate it.
Very cool!!
Thanks Clark!
I appreciate you walking us through the full workflow. I have a very similar system but I always struggled with the photoshop step and duplicate files so that helped. Then using the album function to keep the mix of retouched and just toned final images straight was a big piece of the puzzle. The part I add that I wish I did sooner is taking the extra time for finishing with a rating system. I end up with so many photos especially in sports photography. I try to be really selective in my ratings, I don’t rate bad photos so 1 star is good, 2 is the photos I’d want to share from a shoot, 3 might be my best photos from a few shoots, then 4 and 5 are reserved for all time favorites or portfolio builders. Finally, making sure to tag my family members names in individual photos is huge as well for looking back on.
Thats a great idea Greg! Thank you for the feedback and watching as usual.
I felt like a better background would’ve been the field. I looked at your website and you have some phenomenal photos! Just wondering if these how to videos is just informational compared to your actual work. Thanks.
I always take shots I would on a normal shoot in my videos. Not everything is going to be a portfolio piece, so keep that in mind. I always use the stands as well as the field for soccer photos. Thanks for watching and the feedback!
@@MattHernandezgeneral question, have you tried shooting inside a pop up tent to control lighting during the day? I suppose you could think of it as mobile studio. Use some black backgrounds, fog and props etc. It was just a thought I had in case weather and lighting wasn't favorable.
I have a question. Is it possible to take the same photo but directing the light so that it doesn't reflect on their glasses? I apologize if English is not perfect, but it is not my first language.
It would be easier to do that with 1 subject but with 2 the angles aren't the same. I personally like the reflection but you would have to play with it to see. Normally moving the light higher works but not when they have a hat on. Thanks for watching and the feedback!
@@MattHernandez thanks! 🙏🏼
Matt, you’re a magician with the camera! 🔥🔥🔥
Haha I dont know about that but thank you!
This video made me stop and think: The only time I’ve ever shot directly into the sun are early & late magic hours - I’ve never shot into the sun otherwise, thus I’ve never had a need for such super fast shutter speeds. Your shots were beautiful, but wouldn’t they have been better at magic hour? But if I were to try this daytime concept, wouldn’t an ND filter solve the problem you’re citing with the a7Rv? With a dark enough filter, you wouldn’t need high speed sync.
It was approaching the magic hour as you can see by the direction of the sun in some of the shots. Light is better later in the day, but being a full time professional with a family means I dont always get to shoot during that time, especially in the summer when the days are longer. So having the option to underexpose when it's super bright is very helpful, especially with the power of the a9iii. Yes, and ND filter would solve that probably. I do use one a lot when I don't need to freeze action with fast shutter speeds, but because I shoot so many athletes I need both options. Thanks for watching and the feedback!
Wow global shutter is really the game changer now a9 III pictures have medium format look to them...i mean high speed flash look which you get from leaf shutter to it and super high Shutter speed with flash made day light into dawn...
Thanks for watching and the feedback!
Great video Matt! I have a question, what's the metering mode you use for this kind of photo? Thanks
I usually so multi metering to get the overall exposure of the entire frame. Thanks for watching and the feedback!
@@MattHernandez thanks for getting back to me! And please keep uploading these classes 😃
Nice, brotha!
Thank you!
i dont use cats for any of my editing ....i use PM to cull shots and rate them faster ....then i rename them in PM ....then go to the main folder on my hard drive and delete the old name files ...then take the cull photos into lightroom to edit and tone them and then save those to a new folder on my sdd drive ...that way i dont have 100s of cats on my edting and culling software
What are you referring to when you say cats? It sounds like we do the same thing, you just add an extra step when you re-save the toned photos from Lightroom. I don’t see the need to re-save them, you can just add them into a collection of selects if you need to. I only import the culled photos also, but I don’t delete anything until the shoot is completely done and the client has ordered.
@@MattHernandez catalogs + cats for short ...my bad .....i delete the other raw files that didnt make the culling cut ....the ones that did i edit in lighroom and save into a master folder on my ssd ( i keep those & i send them to the person or team i shot ) but instead of saving all the photos in lightroom to a catalog ...i make a master folder on my ssd drive and save them there and keep them that way lighroom is clean and not so busy with 800 catalogs on my side view and it will help run the software faster cuz less to look through
Hi Matt. Thanks for that. Based on your experiences with both cameras, which is better for general hybrid use not using flash or needing ultra high shutter speeds (ie not solely sports photography)? Thanks .
I really only use my cameras for those two main situations. What are you shooting exactly?
Fantastic interview. I love the section on faith. Great stuff.
Thank you for watching!
Thank you ths is a great, clear demo of a cool set up !!! Love it.
Glad you liked it!
He is my neighbor you might not believe me but even ask him
Hey neighbor 👋🏽 🤣
G’day Matt! Just got the xdrop pro today, and keen for your thoughts on black vs grey vs white backdrops for the easiest cutouts? Love all your content mate. Thanks for sharing!
I like black, but they will all work! The models hair and your lighting really plays a big part. You want as much edge contrast as possible.
Legend. Thanks so much!!
Congratulations on the upcoming 10K subscribers 🙏🏿
Thank you 🙌
Excellent video explaining well 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Love it
Thank you!
So helpful!!! Thank you for sharing! One question... Do you have some sort of modifier on your fog machine to make the fog fan up and out like that? Or is that just from blowing towards the bleachers?
Awesome thank you! It’s just blowing towards the bleachers to make it spread out.
💙 Great job fellas! I appreciate everything ya'll did for me this past weekend!
Thank you so much! We had a great time I’m glad you came.
Amazing ! How do you get 1600 shutter when using flash ?
You have to have a strobe that will allow you to do high speed sync!
I’m using a godox ad600 which allows high speed sync but for some reason this camera model won’t allow it
my sony a7c ii cant go over 160 shutter in high speed sync is this normal
It should be able to…did you put it on mechanical shutter?
Yeah I’ve tried everything and I researched and apparently a7c ii one of the few models that won’t activate higher then 160 😢
Thanks @MattHernandez for the insights (ie., behind the scenes) into your approach to life, work, and family. You are an inspiration to many of us, and we are thankful for you sharing your experiences, skills, and approach in photography. Some things remind me of "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. Cheers and thanks again....
Wow thank you so much for the kind words!
Jesse - great reference to Steven Pressfield - love his books - just finished Put Your Ass (where your heart wants to be) probably a big reason this Podcast was started :). Wish you all the best - thanks for watching.
Now this was great!! First video I've come across to explain how to change a background so quickly.
Glad it was helpful!
What is the camera strap used in this video 0:59
It’s a Rapid Strap!
Didnt know you had a podcast Jake..
Juan - Hope you are doing well! Best of luck with everything!
Indeed he does!
Bro, some feedback? Don't have your talking head in the top left where all the damn menu options are. People can't see your mouse and click there with your face covering it.
Figuring out where to put that is always hard. Thank you!
Is there a lighting kit u suggest for beginners? I only have the Canon Rebel T7 camera to learn on. With different lenses and stuff. But not sure which lighting lamps strobe lights etc to start with
Would you please either get more active on UA-cam OR get more active with Patreon or paid education courses?
Is once a week not enough 🤣? I am posting something next week for patron but my UA-cam has been constant! It’s very time consuming but I’m trying my best. Thank you so much for the support it’s good to know people want my content! Lots more to come don’t worry. I appreciate the feedback stay tuned!
@MattHernandez I absolutely don't mean any disrespect because I'm learning from you but I absolutely don't mind, paying, for more content because I need to learn as much, as possible because time matters 🙏🏼
I didn’t take it that way at all I hope my response didn’t sound like that! I took your comment as a compliment and it just confirms I need to step it up. Thank you for the positive feedback!
@@MattHernandez as a barber, who didn't get into photography during covid, which I wish I did, once per week is not enough BUT since you are a REAL photographer that happens to do UA-cam, I can absolutely understand.
Thanks very much. Practiced today with tips you gave. Appreciate it. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zPYlwYHtdjcppaLqJ-FmgDukfNLzj_gT?usp=drive_link
I'm pretty lazy and fly aways are a pain. I've been using the remove tool mostly.
Why not just use generative fill to remove the flyaways? Select the flyaways and tell generative fill “remove flyaways”. Works great for me.
You can do it that way but sometimes you just need to paint them out and that’s another way to do it. Just another tool in the tool box if needed.
Hahahahaa!! The wig is classic
I always enjoy your videos, Matt. If you know you're going to have to deal with flyaways, it seems to me that having the model move immediately after the photo, and then taking a photo of just the background, would eliminate that first generative fill.
Yeah but that’s a lot of extra frames and it’s realistically not that easy to remember to do all the time on a portrait shoot. I actually did a video on that last year, it’s a good idea. And it’s not like the extra step of generative fill is that much extra time. I’d argue it would be just time consuming taking the time to shoot all those extra photos, open them all along side the main photo, copying and pasting them into the other photos document etc. And it takes up less extra hard drive space not having all the those extra photos! Hahahaha…it’s all about the process and what works for you. Just trying to give extra tools in the tool belt. Thank you for the feedback!
Mate been watching your content for a long time, this however I think the original picture was so much better, more natural 🤷 sorry... However you hair piece I think should stay 😂😅
Thanks for watching and the feedback! Just showing everyone another tool to add into their toolbox for situations they need it.
Like the new do 😂
I have been watching you for years. I really appreciate your endeavors to assist the community in becoming better creators. I pray God rewards you 100 fold!!!
Thank you so much that is awesome to hear!
I always struggle with flyaways so I try to get it right in camera but it still happens. Appreciate content like this that’s useful. If you take requests, During your intro video I saw a picture of a girl playing tennis where you combined sequential images into one. I’d love to know how to do that!
Today's video was for you then! I actually made it based on your suggestion. Check it out! Thanks for watching and the feedback. I love suggestions so any time you have them let me know! ua-cam.com/video/L04xo-GSecI/v-deo.htmlsi=BWowVAQKbuLx1dXB

Hi Matt love your videos thanks for sharing. I have a question, could you do the same shots using a 300W Studio Strobe and would you get the same or similar images? Mark from Australia👍
It would be similar but you wouldnt be able to underexpose as much given the lower power. It would be close though! Thanks for watching and the feedback!
